What's to stop someone else from using mine to send emails?

I wouldn't want a spammer to send a few million emails through mine and get me and AOH blacklisted.

The only users that can use our mailservers to send mail are the ones that you have setup as mail users. If you don't want them sending email, you should delete their user account.

But how does the mail server tell the difference between a user and a non user is what I'm getting at. With the ISPs I've been with, you could only send mail when dialed into their servers.

It's easy to work out the mail servers address if the website url and email address match and the host uses Cpanel.

I notice that in the headers there are a few X-AntiAbuse headers, but they wont stop spammers as they tend to be found out anyway and move on.

The Cpanel tutorial doesn't say much, but is it possible to limit the amount of emails that go through the server or have it only allow emails from a certain IP address?

I see what you are getting at. Cpanel requires pop before send or smtp auth to send a message. This means that a user either has to login or check his mail before he can send a message through our servers.

Last post "Cpanel requires pop before send or smtp auth to send a message" I'm recieved messages quite nicely with Outlook Express V 5.5.
However....
Can't send any, even after recieving, which I thought was what "pop before send" means.

Under account outgoing connections I've added:
smtp.mail.mydomain.com

but doesn't seem to make any difference.

try either mail.yourdomain.com or the IP address of the server.
