Many of you will recall the power outage we experienced about 5 weeks ago. The source of this problem proved to be a UPS that failed to go into bypass mode for what should have been a non-service impacting maintenance at our New York City datacenter. In reaction to this failure, the UPS vendor performed a review of the unit and it was determined that a faulty board requires replacement in the unit.
The UPS must be placed in bypass to complete the replacement, however, if the UPS fails to go into bypass, we will see a repeat of the outage we experienced on May 15th. We are expecting the UPS to fail to go into bypass mode and are notifying all AOH customers that they should expect downtime of approximately 30 to 45 minutes while we shut down all servers to prevent data loss or hard drive corruption, allow for the repairs, and power all servers back up.
The outage window begins at 1am Monday, June 25th.
