Is there a limit to simultaneous connections?

There is not currently a limit configured. We have honestly not had a problem with this in the past, provided that customers disable persistent connections. Even our customers with 50G+ forums very seldom have more than 4 or 5 connections at a time at their highest usage. I will not say that we will not do this in the future if there are abuses or problems, but we have no reason to put anything in place at this time.

Alright. I saw some people talking about it and decided I would see if we had a limit here.

Thanks!

Nah, I just slap Rod around when he starts monopolizing the servers. ;)

Ah .. This is some nice info to know about persistant connections ... I think I remember there being a seting in the config.php file for this setting for vBulletin boards with this being enabled by default ... I'll go diable this to make sure I don't become a problem ... Have to be nice to me fellow virtual neibors ...
We have honestly not had a problem with this in the past, provided that customers disable persistent connections.
Also I don't have anything set for the server load in vBulletin as the board always shows a very low server usage level (Has to be because of the great servers you run :) ) Do you recommend us putting a value in this field and if so what level ... The 5.0 like recommended if you use the feature?

If you were to put one, I would recommend 8-10. The server runs very responsive below 10. Above that it starts getting a tad sluggish.

And just when I say something like that I find a user with 50-75 connections to the test database, some of which have been open for 20000 seconds. Grrrr.
