i'm getting ready to setup a site in the near future. I hope i don't sound like i'm making this stuff up because i really do want to get a domain! I just haven't been able to afford it until a few weeks ago. Now I'm seriously getting ready to pump out some work to put online and put up some cash for some online exposure.

So here's my question:

Since I'm still kinda tight on money, i'd like to know how hard or easy it is to transfer my old domain name over here. I'd like to do it myself, that way i don't have to pay anything extra but i don't have a clue what is involved in doing that. I read somewhere that it's really easy to do, but that's easy to say when you know what you're doing!

my domain name (raji3d.com) is parked and my current host is BestDealWebhost.com so if i could transfer my account and keep it parked, that would be cool too, but i don't know if that's a possibility. hehe i can already hear someone chuckling at my ignorance! oh well, gotta start somewhere.

Please let me know when you have the time. I may come up with more questions as my questions are answered.

Thanks in advance.

No need to appologize. The only stupid questions are the ones unasked.

You don't need to pay anything to move your domain over to AOH. Just signup for the package you were planning on. When we have verified your account we will send you an email with a list of DNS servers to use. Once you have recieved this, you will need to contact your registrar (the person you paid for your domain name) and tell them about the new dns servers. Most often this is done at the website of the registrar. You will need to change "nameservers".

Please feel free to ask any other questions you might have.

thanks a lot for yet another super-fast reply. =) and sorry for apologizing. lol! I do have a habit of doing that when i feel i've asked too many different questions in different posts. anyway...

i'm still a bit unclear about one thing:

Can i move my parked domain over here and keep it parked? if so, how much would it cost?

Thanks again.

Well that is an awfully good question. I don't think I have ever approached a parked only account. So then you mean you would like to move it to our servers with no other services? Meaning, no email, no access to the site other than a placeholder page?

yeah. This is not too important of a question unless you don't charge me anything. I mean i don't know if what i'm getting is a good deal, but parking only cost me 15 bucks for an entire year, but i'm just curious as to how that would go if i were to try transferring a parked domain and keep it that way.

As far as parking a domain as an only service, I don't know that I can give you a better deal that what you are getting. However, if you decide to setup a new site and wanted to park the domain on top of the one that you have purchased a package for, that would be possible at no cost.

Raji,

Just curious... why do you want to "park" your domain?

couldn't afford it for the longest time and then when i could afford it i didn't have any work to show anyone so i figured it'd be a waste of net space and most importantly, my money.

:D

As long as you own the domain, it does not have to be in use, parked or otherwise.

I agree with way2real.. As long as you keep paying your registrar every year/2 years, then you can just let it sit. It wont resolve anywhere, but it doesn't seem like it makes a difference for you. :)
