View Full Version : Poor Response Times

I've been getting on-and-off slow response times and timeouts all day. There was also a period of time for about 10 minutes where myself and others could not connect to my server, and I couldn't even get on to these forums which was a bit odd. That would've made me believe it was an issue with my ISP, but about 10 people in IRC said they couldn't access the website either. Did MySQL/Apache crash or something? Just before it started working again I got a few emails from vBulletin about not being able to connect to the database...

There was an issue yesterday with a user whose script kept taking too many sql processes. The user's site was shut down. However, that doesn't really explain why you were not able to get here and makes me believe you may have ALSO been having ISP problems, because this site is hosted about 1000 miles away from where your site is hosted.

Hey Rod ...
Its hard to tell ... Were you ever able to get a traceroute off during that time ???
Also is your server an Ensim or Cpanel? I believe these forums and the Ensim servers are all located down in Texas. So if you have an Ensim server and one of the major backones in Texas is having trouble you might see some intermittant problems as traffic reroutes thru other carriers ...

Rod is hosted in PA. That is why I suggested that an ISP problem may be involved. We did not receive any complaints about speed to our texas server. Actually we didn't receive any about the one that was having a problem either, we just discovered it via our monitoring processes.

Ah I musta been typeing as you replied .... Yes I type slow
I wasn't sure ... I don't think I know anyone on AOH that has an Ensim server so I don't think I've ever done a traceroute to those servers to see what network they are on ... For some reason I thought I remember once they went thru EV1 network but I'm not sure ...
Since his servers are in PA then no way it was a carrier problem in Texas unless he lived down there so it had to be coincidence ...
