Hi,

Was wondering if any server-based anti-virus protection is available for e-mail accounts. It's not available on our current server and would be a very desirable feature. Doesn't seem to be widely available. Thanks.

The servers do not have an anti-virus protection per se. The Cpanel servers do limit the types of attachments that can come through email for that purpose. It blocks eml, exe, bat, pif, scr, and a few others. But it does not use any sort of definitions, it just blocks those file attachments.

Maybe MailScanner (http://www.sng.ecs.soton.ac.uk/mailscanner/) couild be looked into...

Just a suggestion :)

Any chance something like MailScanner could be added? The price is right. On our current server, some of our e-mail addresses are getting daily virus attacks. These e-mails get forwarded to several people, so we would like to clean them at the server, if possible.

Because the servers are running the cpanel control panel, changes of this nature have to be considered carefully. Our first attempt to install the cpanel associated virus scanner was met with failure due to some problems with their distribution. We may make an attempt to see if they have cleaned it up.

We may consider adding this to our premium services. Stay tuned.

All this Cpanel integration is getting on my nerves. Down with Cpanel! ;) ;)

Your nerves.....you have no idea what it does for mine...but I do have some clients who demand it. And in the end it does make life a little easier

I thought it was great, as it allows you to do so much, but it seems like it's preventing more and more from being done.

You'll run into integration problems on a lot of different control panels ... Even Ensim can be a nightmare depending on the upgrade or addition you want to do ... I've seen a lot more bugs in the Ensim software than I ever did in cPanel ...

You are right, Ensim is also MUCH pickier about changes....and when it is broken, it is just broken.
