Gade,

If you thought that was quite an act you should see some of the locals here in New Orleans. Just let me say that there's never a dull moment here.

Gnomercy: Rodman,....well, that's a little better.
Bison: I lived for 6 years in Belle Chasse. I guess I've seen most of what the locals have to show. I'll never forget one Zulu parade.....well, I'll save that for a different forum. Where's the best muffalotta made in New Orleans now?

best muffalotta = Central Grocery Co. over by the French Market (but they've always had the best hadn't they?)

I was fond of a place in Elysian Fields whose name escapes me now. French Quarter was always too "touristy" for me. Do you ever go to Carlos and Rocky's in Chalmette? It's next to the best gun store in the south, Chalmette Jewelers. I heard they were closed now due to a "disagreement" with the ATF. Something about records not being kept. Oh well......

If you think of the place on Elysian email me I would love to try it out. My wife works at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary on Gentilly so I'm on Elysian all the time.

To be honest, I've never been to Chalmette. I have lived here in Metairie and I have never had a reason to go there.

now this is what I call a thread hijack :)

I have been to Metairie before, but have no idea what that is.

This should explain it:

Couple of Items:

Gnomercy: When you say "now this is what I call a thread hijack" do you mean hijacked from busting my chops about my avatar, or favorite quotes?

Bison: My wife, Mrs. Terbob, was the director of the public library on Elysian. It was near that library. She says she can't even remember. But, if you EVER get close to Belle Chasse, you have got [no, strike that] GOT to go to Salvo's for the best shrimp poboy in the world!! They are just outside the back gate of NAS.

You know, (said whimsically) I pity the few people in this world who don't know what a muffaletta is. I can't tell how much it has added to my life.

To that recipe, I think you have to add black olives.

You should see how much they've added to my waist... :D

Well, my use of the word "added" was referring to my more/less 300lbs. Yike!

Gasp....Must....Post.....almost.......100 posts.....gasp.....wheeze........

I can sympathize. Living in the "fattest city in American" has definitely taken its toll on me.

Ummmm... both I guess Gade :) Was really referring to the whole New Orleans thing, but busting your chops about your avatar worked as well :)

We're systematically going behind you and deleting your earlier posts as you make new ones so you won't crack 100 :D

Danny,

I was thinking bad thoughts about you because I thought you had deleted this whole section of this thread. Now I realise you only exercised "editorial discretion" and moved it to a NEW thread. Pleeaase forgive me. {do you know how glad I am I didn't SAY anything??}

Keep up the good work!!

PS: I always supected that the reason they called me gadeterbob was that my alligator mouth can overload my hummingbird a-- errr excretory tract at any time.

Sorry for not posting something in the other thread. I had no problem at all with the discussion, it just didn't seem to go along with the quotes thread. Carry on with the cajun discussions.

Just an update: Mardi Gras is Tuesday and things are beginning to get a little crazy around here. I got stuck at an intersection for an hour today because they were moving floats into position for tonight's parades. It's been a little different though this year because they have had to reschedule 8 parades due to bad weather.

I just have to remember what I was told whne I first moved here: if you don't like the weather wait an hour and it'll change...

Yeah, how well I remember the New Orleans weather. They have only two seasons there..hot and wet or cold and wet. We lived near the levy in Belle Chasse. Believe it or not, that's the highest ground around.

After my dad died I used to spend summers at my aunt's house in Goodhope on the river road. It was walking distance from Norco, where I went to see movies once a week. No theater in Goodhope. In fact, no NOTHIN' in Goodhope.

In those days [circa 1945-1950 or thereabouts] you could actually swim in Lake Ponchartrain. Now I hear it's so polluted that it'll melt the numbers off a pool ball.
