Hello, my name is Mike and I suffer from email spam...
Ok I've enabled Spam Assassin which has helped a lot in notifying me that the email is spam, but I don't even want to download it. The rare chances that it deletes something that isn't spam is not that big of a concern with me. I've read on another site that Spam Assassin allows me to increase and decrease the level of intensity of the program and I think I know how to by editing the required_hits value. Is this true? Also is there a way I can make the server just delete anything that suspected as spam so I never see it?
I've seen SpamBox - what is that, and how does it work? Thus far I have enabled it just so all the spam goes there and I never have to mess with is in Outlook, but by doing this will Spam Assassin just fill up some mailbox that I never check or use thus filling up my disk space?

Here is a VERY long link to some information we have compiled on SA.

You are correct that the spam box just "moves it out of the way". You still need to review the spam box to clear it out occassionally.

The auto deleting thing - http://www.alphaomegahosting.com/support/index.php?_a=knowledgebase&_j=questiondetails&_i=31&nav=+%26gt%3B+%3Ca+href%3D%27index.php%3F_a%3Dknow ledgebase%26_j%3Dsubcat%26_i%3D11%27%3ESpamAssassi n%3C%2Fa%3E&PHPSESSID=f5473cf8447a9c27ee7c61ddd51b86b7
How can it be setup so it autodeletes things that are sent to the catchall email? Right now spam still goes through if it isn't addressed to a real email box, and I'd like to be able to still use the catchall email address but have it automatically discard spam as well.

Ok in the knowledgebase it says how to setup a mail filter so the emails coming in marked as spam gets deleted, I've done that and it doesn't seem to work. I just logged in via webmail and notice that all but one message was spam, and marked as spam by spam assassin though the filter didn't delete them. What am I doing wrong?

Actually, nothing. There is a bug in cpanel that runs the cpanel email filters before it applies spamassassin. There is a thread on the cpanel forums about it, that was started on November 27, 2003 and to date, the cpanel developer hasn't so much as acknowledged the issue. To quote that thread:
Well, I started this thread and have enjoyed watching everyone that doesn't have this problem shrug their shoulders at all of us that do. It is VERY nice to see that it is a real problem and not just me
Until it is solved, I have SA turned on and use filters in my email client. I recommend this practice to my clients and then appologize to them that I offer features that don't work .
Sure would be nice if we knew what was causing this and a way to fix it.
...and...
Yep, this is getting more and more frustrating. I am also using client side filters, but this isn't a great solution because my email program shows a mail notification even when it is marked as spam...
So, CPanel People, the holidays are over; where are you?
It's quite frustrating indeed, and hopefully Cpanel will fix it to work like it's supposed to.
