View Full Version : dedicated server question
P4 Dedicated 2.8
Intel P4 2.8Ghz 800 FSB
1G DDR Ram
120G SATA Hard Drive
500GB Transfer
Right now I have a reseller 5 account with lots of additions, basically it runs over a hundred a month.
I am thinking about the above dedicated server package you have.( should I be?)
what will this do to the reseller account I have now, Can I set up a reseller acount like we have now on this server( ie all the stats and stuff)?
I have quite a few different .com names on the reseller acount.
is the dedicated server I listed above as fast as what we have now?
is it as good or do I need to add more stuff to it?
Thanks for the good work guys

Thanks for stopping by to chat Del.
I think there are many reasons to move to a dedicated server. Here are a couple of advantages.
Resources on the server are only shared by your sites or customers sites. This may prevent slow downs due to over usage.
Bandwidth becomes much cheaper as you scale into the dedicated range of servers.
Disk space becomes much cheaper as you scale into a dedicated server.
Now for the selection of hardware. For the money, most customers are preferring the 3.2Ghz rather than the 2.8. I will most likely remove the 2.8 from the site soon due to customer demands for the 3.2.
The server could be setup with cpanel and we can setup/move your existing reseller account over providing you with very much the same experience you have now. One issue with dedicated servers is who will manage the server. Be careful when comparing the boxes against other companies. Our servers are more expensive for a reason...they are managed. We take care of making the server run well. For you, it can be as simple and pain-free as the reseller account you have now....but with many more options.
Your next question was wether or not the server would be as fast. Keep in mind that we place our shared accounts on very high performance, fault tolerant servers. So if you compare raw speed, the server you are on now is much faster. However, you "share" that speed with other users. On a dedicated server, only your sites contend for that speed. If you are interested in a server configuration that is similar to what your site is hosted on now, they start around $495/month. However, I don't think you would be disappointed with our dedicated servers, especially for the size sites you have.
Thanks again for taking time to ask and feel free to volly any questions back that you might have.
Danny,
I dont think I could ever change from your service's no matter how much I could save, your tech support is flat out the best. You guys have always gone way beyond what anyother place would do not to mention what I have done to mess things up you have fixed.
heres what I plan on doing for the time being so this might help answer some questions and tell me if it will be worth it to switch over.
azbasszone.com
it takes up alot of bandwidth and we still arent finished yet, I have alot of stoories to add with some video clips( these are where the main server loads are I believe)
Hunttalk.com
same thing, however I am not finished with this one as of yet, but basically its ver picture intensive and we have some videos now and alot more in the future
del-mart.com
this is my store, another one that I need to completely redo, but I want to add a secure server to it in the future
Then I have about 5-9 regular .com sites from friends( that I dont charge for but need to)
I have one more .com site that I will be setting up in the near future, it will be pretty big but I wont have vids, just mostly text( v bulletin) and some pictures.
I guess what I am trying to figure out is what is server intensive and what is not. I dont want to loose too much speed, mainly due to guys still have dial ups( can you believe that :D )
do I really need a c panel? or can I do it with out? If I dont have a c-panal, how would I be able to check stats for each .com site.
what about emails for other .com sites would they work the same?
is there anyway I can see what the server bottons look like? ( I assume it something similar to c panel.
I will go with the 3.2 but I need to know about what it will cost for what I need ( you can shoot me an email over if you dont want to post it)
April ( my wife) gave me the ok if I am not looking at alot of cash and she wants me to get on the guys who have websites with me now( they wont have a problem)
Like when I first got thrown into this 2-3 years ago transfering hunttalk over to your server I was very unsure( cause I didint know anything)
now I have never done a server deal and I am unsure as well.
Also how much down time would we expect during this change?
I will have some more ?'s I am sure
Thanks alot Danny.

oh yeah will I have enough memory or will I need 2 gigs?
