Default Trying to set up a message board using MySQL and very confused...

I think my problem might have something to do with the name of my database or where I'm uploading the files. I downloaded the .zip file from XMB for their message boards and everything, followed the directions in the Installation Advice, and still can't get it to work. I'll try to explain this as well as I can but it's just all messed up. Ugh.

So, it says I have to edit a file called config.php and enter in my database name, username, password, etc. In my admin control panel it says my database is named red-december_net_-_community, so that's what I put as the database name. I created a directory called the same thing in my FTP client along with all the other directories, and uploaded the files in the .zip file with the changed config.php file to it, so the URL should be http://www.red-december.net/red-dece...t_-_community/, but when I follow the directions after that, and go to http://www.red-december.net/red-dece...y/install.html , I get this exact error:

Quote:
Warning: Unable to access ./db/mysql.php in /home/virtual/site14/fst/var/www/html/community/cinst.php on line 14

Warning: Unable to access ./db/mysql.php in /home/virtual/site14/fst/var/www/html/community/cinst.php on line 14

Fatal error: Failed opening required './db/mysql.php' (include_path='.:/php/includes:/usr/share/php:/usr/share/pear') in /home/virtual/site14/fst/var/www/html/community/cinst.php on line 14
Also when I got to http://www.red-december.net/red-dece...nity/index.php I get this error:

Quote:
Warning: Unable to access ./db/mysql.php in /home/virtual/site14/fst/var/www/html/red-december_net/header.php on line 55

Warning: Unable to access ./db/mysql.php in /home/virtual/site14/fst/var/www/html/red-december_net/header.php on line 55

Fatal error: Failed opening required './db/mysql.php' (include_path='.:/php/includes:/usr/share/php:/usr/share/pear') in /home/virtual/site14/fst/var/www/html/red-december_net/header.php on line 55
I know I'm probably entering some information wrong in config.php or putting the directory or files in the wrong place or something like that but this is the first time I've ever done this so I have no idea. Heh. Please help.

A few thoughts here.

1. I would strongly advise against XMB forums. There are a number of forums that are available that, in my opinion, provide better performance, security, expandability and asthetics. Some suggestions are phpBB2, invisionboard, and vbulletin (not free).

2. It seems you have selected the proper database name and most likely have edited the file correctly.

3. The directory you are uploading to does not have to match the database name. Most people use something like /forums/ to load the forums into. The error message makes me think that maybe some of the files or directories didn't get loaded.

If you would like for us to step in a complete the installation for you, please let me know via a troubleticket and we will be happy to finish the installation.

May have to refresh my geezing memory, but wasn't xmb shut down about 8-9 months ago so they could "fix" security problems?
I've been real pleased with invision, lots of support via forums, skins and hacks.

I don't know if they were shut down, but they have included a security patch with a version of their boards or something like that. They won't let you download another version because of the security issues.

All right, I'm going with phpBB2, but I think I'm extracting the zip file wrong or something. When I hit extract and put them in a new folder, it creates all these other folders as well. Am I supposed to make all those folders a directory in my FTP client? Or, should I just open the zip file and select all and then just click/drag them into the new folder? When I do that it asks me if I want to overwrite some files. Also when I click on config.php it's just blank!
